New Delhi (Agency): Bihar’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Samrat Choudhary has called for the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, following a shooting incident in the Samastipur court. The incident left two prisoners injured and heightened concerns about the state’s law and order.

“Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is not able to handle the state…The situation in the state is not good and when there is a firing inside the court premises then how is the law and order strict in the state…Nitish Kumar should immediately resign,” said Choudhary.

The call for Kumar’s resignation comes after four attackers opened fire in the Samastipur court, wounding prisoners Prabhat Chowdhary and Prabhat Tiwari. The attackers struck during the hearing and managed to escape, causing chaos in the courtroom.

Samastipur’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinay Tiwari said, “A few days ago in Samastipur Court campus, a mafia Prabhat Chowdhary was arrested and sent to jail after six months of consistent efforts and surveillance and with the help of a technical team. The hearing of his case was going on and he was present when four miscreants came and shot him in his leg. He is stable and didn’t sustain any major injury. Another person was also shot in the incident…We are looking for those miscreants and the security in the court campus has been increased.”

The injured prisoners have been taken to the hospital for treatment. The attackers, who managed to evade capture, are still being sought by law enforcement. Security has been increased at the Samastipur court premises following the event.

The incident has raised questions about the state of law and order in Bihar, one of India’s largest states. Courts are usually seen as places of safety and justice, so a shooting incident within the premises is deeply unsettling. It brings into focus the challenges that the state government faces in maintaining public security and upholding the rule of law.

The Bihar BJP chief’s strong words against Kumar represent a notable political development, given that the BJP is part of the governing coalition in Bihar along with Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United). However, this incident has led to open criticism and demands for immediate action.
