New Delhi (Agency): A day before a significant meeting of the opposition’s INDIA alliance, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav made strong statements. Speaking on Wednesday, Yadav declared that his party and its allies are fully prepared to face elections at any time and that they are set to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Yadav said, “The country wants a change. INDIA is going to defeat the BJP (in 2024). The Samajwadi Party and its allies are ready for the election — be it early or later.” He made these comments while visiting Sitapur to express condolences over the death of a former party MLA, Rampal Yadav.

The leader of the Samajwadi Party was vocal in his criticism of the current government. “Farmers, youths, labourers, and the poor are angry and upset by the policies and decisions of the BJP government. The BJP has broken the hopes of the poor. The BJP wants to keep the poor as slaves,” Yadav alleged.

Leaders of the INDIA bloc will hold important discussions during a two-day event in Mumbai starting Thursday. They plan to announce a coordination committee and a logo for the alliance. Additionally, they intend to discuss joint campaign strategies for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and resolve any internal differences. Plans to draft a common minimum program and to strategize seat sharing are also likely to be on the agenda.

Discussing the upcoming bypoll in Ghosi scheduled for September 5, Yadav criticized the BJP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan for “ditching the people of the constituency.” Chauhan won in 2022 as a Samajwadi Party candidate but later resigned to join the BJP. Yadav said, “The people are going to defeat him and make the Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh victorious with a record margin.”

Yadav also talked about the recent reduction in LPG prices, stating that this was merely a political move with elections in mind. “Cylinders of Rs 400 were given to the people at Rs 1,100. Now, seeing that elections are near, they have only reduced the price by Rs 200,” he said.

Yadav’s statements come at a crucial time with the Lok Sabha elections just around the corner. His words amplify the discontent against the current government and add momentum to the opposition’s efforts. With the two-day INDIA alliance meeting on the horizon, all eyes will be on how the various opposition parties strategize to take on the ruling BJP.
