Abhishek Banerjee Claims Top BJP Leaders Eyeing TMC Switch

TMC's Abhishek Banerjee states that ten prominent BJP leaders are planning to join TMC, a claim refuted by the BJP as mere political rhetoric.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency(West Bengal): In a striking political statement, senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee declared that ten top leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are considering joining the TMC. This assertion was made during a roadshow in the Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituency, where Banerjee emphasized that the TMC is prepared to welcome these leaders at an opportune time to effectively diminish BJP’s presence in the state.

Banerjee criticized the BJP’s tactics, accusing them of attempting to destabilize other parties by poaching members, including TMC MPs. He cited the recent acquisitions of Arjun Singh and Babul Supriyo from the BJP as a counteraction to BJP’s strategies, which also involved alleged Enforcement Directorate raids to secure defections.

However, the BJP has dismissed these claims as unfounded and driven by electoral stress. BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya countered by predicting a significant disbanding of the TMC post-elections, likening it to a “pack of cards.”

The political landscape in West Bengal has been particularly volatile since the 2021 state assembly elections, where the TMC secured a decisive third term by winning 213 of the 292 assembly seats, while the BJP made significant inroads with 77 seats. This ongoing tug-of-war between the two major parties highlights the dynamic and often contentious nature of state politics.
