The Aryavarth Express Chennai: The ongoing leadership dispute within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) came up for hearing before the Madras High Court on Thursday, where the judge advised the petitioners to approach a civil court to resolve the matter.
During the proceedings, counsel representing one faction alleged that fabricated documents had been submitted portraying Anbumani Ramadoss as the party president. The counsel argued that Anbumani was neither a valid member of the party nor authorised to hold the post of president, and termed the claims to that effect as incorrect. They also contended that the party’s “Mango” symbol could soon be frozen.
A petition filed on behalf of PMK founder S. Ramadoss sought to restrain the conduct of the upcoming Assembly elections until internal party issues are resolved.
However, the High Court observed that disputes of this nature should be adjudicated in a civil court. The judge further remarked that the Election Commission generally does not interfere in the internal affairs of registered unrecognised political parties.
Advocate Balu, appearing for the opposing faction, alleged that legal proceedings were being initiated by misusing Ramadoss’ age and questioned the authenticity of the signatures on documents submitted in court. He claimed there were discrepancies between signatures in various affidavits attributed to the PMK founder and stated that a separate criminal complaint had been initiated in this regard, alleging that the court had been misled.
The court also cautioned that costs could be imposed on Ramadoss’ side in connection with the case.
According to Advocate Balu, the order clarifies that there is no restriction on Anbumani Ramadoss signing the mandatory A and B forms required for PMK candidates contesting the Assembly elections.
The intra-party dispute has intensified ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, with both factions locked in a legal battle over party leadership and the authority to nominate candidates.
