New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings on the occasion of Navy Day, praising the Indian Navy for its exceptional courage, determination, and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister highlighted the force’s ongoing focus on self-reliance and modernisation, noting that these efforts have significantly strengthened India’s security framework.
Modi also reminisced about celebrating Diwali this year with naval personnel aboard INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier. Sharing a video from his visit, he wrote, “I can never forget this year’s Diwali, which I spent with Naval personnel on board INS Vikrant. Wishing the Indian Navy the very best for their endeavours ahead.”
Earlier in October, during his visit to Panaji, Goa, Modi upheld his long-standing tradition of spending Diwali with the Armed Forces—an annual practice he has maintained for the past 11 years. Referring to the forces as “his family,” he said celebrating the festival with them has become a cherished habit.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Indian Navy showcased its operational strength and maritime capabilities during an impressive ‘Operational Demonstration’ at Shangumugham Beach in Thiruvananthapuram. The event highlighted the force’s combat readiness, technological advancements, and expanding maritime prowess, reflecting India’s growing emphasis on self-reliance.
President Droupadi Murmu was the Chief Guest at the event and was welcomed by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, with a ceremonial Guard of Honour. Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, senior officials of the Central and State governments, military leaders, and thousands of spectators were also present.
India observes Navy Day on December 4 each year to honour the contributions of the Indian Navy and commemorate its triumph in Operation Trident during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
