Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district that claimed 12 lives. He announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for each injured individual.

The PM’s Office posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Mandsaur. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

The fatal incident occurred on Sunday when a speeding van collided with a motorcycle and plunged into a well. According to the police, 12 people lost their lives, including the biker and a villager who tried to rescue the victims.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also conveyed his condolences and announced financial aid: Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh to those seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries from the CM’s discretionary fund.

Speaking on the tragedy, SP Abhishek Anand of Mandsaur said that the van was carrying 14 people. After hitting a motorcycle, the van fell into a deep well. Tragically, 11 people died inside the well, while one person died on the road. A local villager, Manohar, who attempted to rescue the victims, managed to save six people, including two children, but lost his life in the effort.

Rescue operations were swiftly conducted by the local administration, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and post-mortem examinations of the deceased are being completed.
