Hisar, Haryana: On the occasion of Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted the profound influence of Ambedkar’s ideals on the NDA government, describing them as a “prerna stambh” — a pillar of inspiration — for its decisions and policies over the past 11 years.
Speaking at the Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar, PM Modi flagged off the first direct commercial flight from Hisar to Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh and laid the foundation stone for a new terminal building at the airport.
“Today, on Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Jayanti, I bow to his legacy. His teachings and vision continue to guide every decision of our government. “For us, he is a constant source of inspiration,” said the Prime Minister.
Dr B.R. Ambedkar, widely known as the architect of the Indian Constitution and revered as a champion of social justice, was also Independent India’s first Law and Justice Minister. Born into a marginalised Dalit Mahar family in Madhya Pradesh, Ambedkar dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of the oppressed and marginalised, earning him the status of a Dalit icon.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to inclusive development, PM Modi said, “Our goal is to uplift the poor, backward classes, and tribal communities. This new air route connects the land of Lord Krishna, Haryana, directly to the holy city of Lord Ram, Ayodhya. It marks a new chapter in Haryana’s development journey.”
The Prime Minister also shared personal reflections about his long association with Haryana, recalling his time working with party members in the state. I have deep memories of Haryana and Hisar. When I was given the responsibility of the state, I worked here closely with many colleagues. Their dedication helped lay a strong foundation for the BJP in Haryana. “It gives me pride to see the state moving forward on the path of development,” he added.
Ambedkar Jayanti is observed as a public holiday across the country, with schools, banks, and government offices remaining closed in many areas to honour his legacy.
