The Aryavarth Express Siliguri (West Bengal): Union Minister Savitri Thakur on Thursday claimed that a major political shift is likely in West Bengal, alleging that people in the state have grown frustrated with the current administration and are seeking change.
Speaking to reporters in Siliguri, Savitri Thakur said the public has “made up its mind” to replace the Trinamool Congress government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She also accused the state government of failing to ensure the safety of women and not properly implementing several welfare schemes launched by the central government.
“This time there will be change in Bengal. Everyone has taken a pledge. The people here are fed up with the Trinamool Congress. Atrocities are being committed against women and there is no safety for them. The government here is doing injustice to women,” Savitri Thakur said.
She further alleged that several central welfare schemes have not been implemented effectively in the state. “The central government has launched many schemes, but they have not been implemented on the ground here. Our slogan is the welfare of farmers, youth, women and the poor, but this government is not working for them. The rights of local people are also being taken away,” she added.
Earlier this week, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also criticised the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the state, alleging corruption and misgovernance.
Speaking in Kolkata, Chouhan claimed that people in West Bengal are suffering due to the “misrule” of the TMC government and are seeking change.
“The people of Bengal are suffering from the misrule of TMC. TMC means torture and tragedy. M stands for money, murder and mafia, while C stands for corruption, crime and cruelty,” he said, while also alleging that infiltrators were taking away the rights and resources of local residents.
He added that the ongoing “Parivartan Yatra” reflects a broader movement for political change in the state.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad defended the party’s approach to nominations for the Rajya Sabha, saying the party often gives opportunities to individuals who have excelled in their respective fields so they can present their perspectives in Parliament.
“TMC always gives opportunities to people who have done good work in their fields so that they can share their perspectives in Parliament. Our MPs in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha raise important issues,” Azad said while speaking to reporters.
