Burari, New Delhi: The Outer North District Police have solved a major robbery case with the arrest of three members of an inter-district gang that targeted a senior citizen in Burari last week. The breakthrough not only resolved the ₹3.5-lakh heist but also uncovered a wider criminal network operating across Delhi’s outer region.
The incident occurred on November 27, when an elderly man withdrew ₹3.5 lakh from the State Bank of India’s Burari branch. Unbeknownst to him, five men posing as routine customers had already marked him after noticing the sizeable withdrawal.
Once the victim exited the bank, two motorcycles followed him along the Bawana–Narela road. At a secluded point, the gang intercepted him, surrounded him, and forcibly took the cash before fleeing the scene.
A case was immediately registered at Swaroop Nagar Police Station, prompting the formation of a special team. Through continuous surveillance, technical tracking, and ground-level operations, police arrested three suspects identified as Karan, Sachin, and Akash.
During questioning, the arrested men disclosed that the robbery was part of a coordinated plan led by their mastermind, Lovely, who is still on the run along with another key accomplice, Mohan alias Gandhi. According to police, the gang habitually targeted bank customers—particularly senior citizens—after watching their transactions inside busy branches.
The group typically used two motorcycles to trail victims. Following instructions from Lovely, members would enter banks pretending to be customers, spot individuals making substantial withdrawals, and then follow them to isolated areas. The second bike’s riders were responsible for overpowering the target and seizing the money.
Police are conducting raids to nab the remaining accused. Authorities have urged citizens, especially senior citizens, to stay vigilant after withdrawing cash and to report any suspicious behavior immediately.
