Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has raised serious concerns over the rise of “digital arrest” scams, urging citizens to stay alert and report any information related to astrologer Ashok Kharat.
Speaking in the Assembly in Mumbai, Fadnavis clarified that “digital arrests” have no legal standing and are a form of cyber fraud carried out by imposters posing as police officials.
He appealed to the public to share any relevant information about Kharat, who is currently under investigation for multiple allegations, including fraud and sexual exploitation of a woman under the pretext of spiritual guidance.
The Chief Minister assured that the case is being closely monitored and that strict action will be taken against those found guilty. He also advised citizens to immediately inform the police if they receive suspicious calls involving threats of “digital arrest.”
