The Aryavarth Express New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested an absconding coordinator of physical education training linked to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) upon his arrival from the UAE at Cochin International Airport, officials said.
The accused, Moideenkutty P, a native of Kattipparuthi in Kerala’s Malappuram district, had been on the run for nearly three years after a case was registered against him in September 2022. He was taken into custody immediately after landing at the airport.
According to the NIA, Moideenkutty served as the physical education training coordinator for PFI in Kerala. Following the registration of the case, he allegedly fled the country. During the investigation, NIA officials conducted searches at his residence and recovered several incriminating documents.
The case pertains to an alleged criminal conspiracy by PFI leaders and cadres to create communal divisions through the radicalisation of youth. The agency has stated that, as part of the conspiracy, selected individuals were allegedly trained in weapons handling and mobilised to raise funds for violent activities, with the aim of furthering extremist objectives.
Investigators have also alleged that the organisation operated various specialised wings, including a “Reporters Wing,” “Physical and Arms Training Wing,” and “Service Teams,” and used campuses and facilities to impart arms training under the guise of physical education and yoga sessions.
So far, the NIA has chargesheeted 65 accused in connection with the case and said further investigation is ongoing.
