Thackeray Predicts BJP’s Electoral Decline

Uddhav Thackeray asserts that the BJP will not win future elections, even at the district level, due to autocratic tendencies.

Agency(New Delhi): Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, while addressing rallies in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district, made a bold prediction about the future electoral prospects of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Thackeray, speaking in Matola, Chikhli, and Jalgaon-Jamod, claimed that the BJP would not win future elections, not just at the state or national levels but even in district-level Zilla Parishad polls.

Thackeray emphasized that his opposition was not personal against Prime Minister Narendra Modi or any individual but was against what he perceived as autocratic governance. He critiqued the Modi government’s recent budget, declaring it as their last and doubting the BJP’s ability to regain power in Delhi or at any government level for the next century.

Highlighting the budget’s focus on farmers, youth, women, and the poor, Thackeray noted that it took the Prime Minister ten years to acknowledge these crucial segments of society. He also commented on the lack of government doctors available to treat victims of a recent suspected food poisoning incident in Lonar, Buldhana. Thackeray brought up the plight of drought-affected farmers and the unemployed youth in west Vidarbha, questioning the actual impact of central schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) on their intended beneficiaries.

Criticizing Modi’s recent Lok Sabha speech as more befitting a BJP leader than a Prime Minister, Thackeray lauded the protesting farmers at the Shambhu border, who are demanding a legally guaranteed Minimum Support Price. He urged farmers in Vidarbha, a region once infamous for farmer suicides, to continue fighting for justice rather than giving up.

Thackeray’s speech also touched on the contributions of the ruling parties’ ideological predecessors to India’s freedom struggle, subtly referencing the BJP without naming it directly. He stated that his party’s fight was to preserve democracy and resist autocracy, reiterating his stance against autocratic rule rather than any specific individual, despite his split with the BJP in 2019.
