Agency(New Delhi): In a dramatic turn of events, a group of farmers from Tamil Nadu took their protest to new heights by attempting to climb a mobile tower at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. This protest, held on Wednesday, aimed to draw attention to their demands for increased farm incomes, a pension scheme, individual insurance, and the ambitious proposal of interlinking rivers across India.

Officials reported that about 100 farmers participated in the demonstration, with a few making attempts to ascend nearby trees and the mobile tower to underscore their plight. The Delhi Police, along with the fire brigade, were deployed to manage the situation, using cranes to safely bring down one of the farmers from the tower.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla noted that while the group primarily gathered to advocate for the river interlinking project, the dramatic attempts to climb the tower highlighted their broader frustrations and demands.

The farmers have stated that if their demands are not addressed, they are considering contesting the Lok Sabha polls directly against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Varanasi constituency. This bold statement underlines the severity of their grievances and their determination to seek resolutions.

The Delhi Fire Services played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the protesters, deploying sky lifts to remove farmers from precarious positions. This incident at Jantar Mantar not only reflects the ongoing struggles of the agricultural community but also signifies the increasing desperation and dramatic measures that farmers are willing to undertake to have their voices heard.
