Agency (New Delhi): Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi delivered a video message on Monday, emphasizing that the guarantees listed in the Congress party’s Lok Sabha poll manifesto will transform lives during these challenging times. The message, shared on social media by the Congress, specifically highlighted the party’s ‘Mahalakshmi Scheme’ aimed at supporting women facing economic hardships.

“My dear sisters, women have made a huge contribution, from the freedom struggle to the creation of modern India. However, today our women are facing a crisis amid severe inflation. To do justice to their hard work and penance, the Congress has come up with a revolutionary guarantee,” Sonia Gandhi stated in her address.

The ‘Mahalakshmi Scheme’ promises to provide Rs 1 lakh annually to a woman from every poor family, a measure Sonia Gandhi believes will significantly alter their lives. She pointed out that similar initiatives by the Congress in Karnataka and Telangana have already benefited countless families.

Sonia Gandhi reminded voters of the Congress party’s history of empowering citizens through landmark policies like MGNREGA, Right to Information, Right to Education, and Food Security. “The ‘Mahalakshmi’ is the latest guarantee to take our work forward,” she asserted.

In her appeal, Sonia Gandhi urged voters to support the Congress in the ongoing fourth round of the seven-phase general elections, ensuring them that the Congress’ support would change their circumstances. “In this difficult time, I want to assure you that the hand of Congress is with you and this hand will change your circumstances. Thank you. Jai Hind,” she concluded.

Her message was shared by Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on their social media handles. Rahul Gandhi, while sharing his mother’s message, emphasized the transformative potential of the ‘Mahalakshmi Scheme.’ He stated, “Women from poor families remember — your one vote is equal to Rs 1 lakh annually in your account.”

Rahul Gandhi further explained that the scheme, which deposits Rs 8,500 monthly into women’s bank accounts, would empower women financially and enable them to shape their families’ destinies. “The Congress’ ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme is going to be a lifesaver for women struggling amid terrible inflation and unemployment,” he said, urging women to vote and change their circumstances.

The Congress party hopes that these promises will resonate with voters, particularly women, as they continue to campaign in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
