Agency (Mumbai): In a shocking incident that has rattled Mumbai, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was fatally shot by Morris Noronha, a local goon, during a Facebook Live interaction. The tragic event occurred on Thursday evening, leaving the city in disbelief and grief.
Ghosalkar was participating in a live social media broadcast, discussing local civic issues with online visitors. The broadcast was held at Noronha’s office in IC Colony, Borivali West. Towards the end of the session, Noronha, known locally as ‘Morris-bhai’, abruptly returned to the scene and shot Ghosalkar multiple times at close range. Ghosalkar, caught off guard by the sudden attack, was seen stumbling and falling down, with at least one bullet hitting his chest and another his shoulder.
Immediately after the attack, Ghosalkar was rushed to Karuna Hospital in the LIC Colony but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after. In a distressing turn of events, the assailant, Morris Noronha, then shot himself with at least four bullets, leading to his death.
Abhishek Ghosalkar, son of senior Shiv Sena leader Vinod Ghosalkar, was a prominent figure in the party and a former BMC Corporator. His mother, Tejasvee A. Ghosalkar, also served as a BMC Corporator. The family is well-known in the political circles of Maharashtra.
Morris Noronha had a notorious reputation in the local community and was known for his involvement in gambling activities. The motive behind the killing is believed to be personal enmity, stemming from Ghosalkar’s role in Noronha’s imprisonment last year in a criminal case.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from political leaders across the spectrum. Prominent figures like Aditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena, as well as leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, have criticized the state government for the breakdown of law and order. Leaders from the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP alliance have also expressed their condemnation of this heinous act.
Top police officials and forensic teams are actively investigating the crime scene, and the area has been cordoned off. The shocking nature of the incident, particularly its broadcast during a live social media session, has raised serious concerns about public safety and the state of law and order in Maharashtra. The state and the nation mourn the loss of a young political leader and seek answers to this tragic event.
