Rajput’s Protest Against Union Minister Parshottam Rupala

The Kshatriya community in Gujarat demands the BJP to replace Union Minister Parshottam Rupala as the Rajkot Lok Sabha candidate due to his controversial comments, despite his apology.

Agency(Gujarat): The Kshatriya community, also known as Rajputs, in Gujarat has escalated its opposition towards Union Minister Parshottam Rupala following his controversial remarks about the former rulers of princely states. They have warned the BJP of a potential defeat in the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat unless Rupala is substituted as the candidate.

Community leaders convened in Ahmedabad and resolved to publicly denounce Rupala by burning his effigy statewide. They also plan to organize a significant rally in Rajkot shortly as a form of protest.

Rupala’s contentious speech on March 22 criticized the ‘maharajas’ for their submission to foreign and British oppression, noting their alliances through marriage and camaraderie. Despite Rupala’s subsequent apology, the community’s coordinating body dismissed it, questioning his sincerity and suggesting his attitude might recur post-election.

Virbhadrasinh, a committee member, expressed, “We disregard his apology as insincere. We caution that if Rupala remains, his defeat is certain. Our issue is not with the BJP, and we welcome another candidate in place of Rupala.”

The meeting in Gota, Ahmedabad, was aimed at strategizing future actions if their demands remain unmet. Emphasizing the community’s longstanding loyalty to the BJP, they expressed that their dignity is now compromised, showing no inclination to forgive Rupala.

Vasudevsinh Gohil, another leader, stated their intention to continue their protest through effigy burning across all districts unless their demand is met. The community insists on Rupala’s removal over his derogatory comments, planning a large ‘maha-sammelan’ in Rajkot to pressure the BJP.

Gohil highlighted the electoral influence of the Rajput community, pointing out their significant numbers in Gujarat and Rajkot, and hinted at the support of other communities. Their collective voting power, they claim, is sufficient to sway election outcomes.

Gujarat is set to vote for all 26 seats on May 7, with the results announced on June 4.
