Agency (New Delhi): Rae Bareli and Amethi are strongholds of the Nehru-Gandhi family, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emerging victorious against BJP’s Smriti Irani in the latter. Rahul succeeded Priyanka Gandhi, who had previously won the seat and vacated it last year.
The Opposition INDIA bloc has defied all expectations from exit polls, currently leading in at least 228 seats based on the latest numbers. Despite a tough competition, the BJP-led NDA is steadily approaching the 300-seat milestone, currently standing at 297. Since the BJP was unable to secure a majority on its own, discussions have commenced, with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu receiving calls from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
