Agency (New Delhi): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra praised the people of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, 6 June, for delivering a powerful message about the importance of saving the Constitution and reaffirming the significance of addressing real issues.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) faced a setback in Uttar Pradesh, securing only 36 seats compared to the INDIA bloc’s 43 seats. This outcome significantly boosted the opposition alliance’s overall tally.
In a Hindi post on X, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her appreciation for the UP Congress colleagues. “My salute to all my colleagues of UP Congress. I saw you working hard in the sun and dust, you did not bow down, you did not stop, you showed courage to fight in the toughest of times,” she wrote.
She acknowledged the hardships faced by the party members, including false charges, imprisonment, and repeated house arrests. Despite these challenges, they remained steadfast. “Many leaders left in fear, you stood firm,” she added.
Gandhi also lauded the vigilant citizens of Uttar Pradesh, who she believed understood the deeper truth and essence of the country. She emphasized that their actions sent a solid message to the entire nation about the need to protect the Constitution. “You have re-established an old ideal in today’s politics – that the issues of the people are paramount, the price of ignoring them is heavy,” she said.
Gandhi underscored the importance of public participation in elections, stating that the election is for the people, fought by the people, and won by the people.
In the 2024 elections, the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, leading the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh, secured 37 seats, becoming the single largest party in the state. The BJP won 33 seats. The Congress, an ally of the Samajwadi Party, won six seats, including Amethi and Rae Bareli. Within the NDA, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) secured two seats, while Anupriya Patel-led Apna Dal (S) won one seat.
