Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has sanctioned the prosecution of six individuals under UAPA for their involvement in the 2023 Parliament security breach, where yellow smoke caused panic among MPs.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (New Delhi): Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has approved the prosecution of six individuals under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for their alleged involvement in a major security breach at Parliament last year, according to Raj Niwas officials.

The incident occurred on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, December 13, 2023. Two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery and released canisters emitting yellow smoke, causing panic among the Members of Parliament.

The six accused in the case are Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, Neelam Ranolia, Lalit Jha, and Mahesh Kumawat. They have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody.

The Delhi Police sought prosecution under sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA. After reviewing the evidence, the Directorate of Prosecution at Tis Hazari, Delhi, found sufficient material to support the charges and granted the necessary prosecution sanction.

A Raj Niwas official stated, “The Review Committee noted that prima facie a case was made out against the accused under UAPA.”

The case was initially registered at Parliament Street police station following a complaint by a security officer in the Lok Sabha. The investigation was later transferred to the Counter Intelligence Unit of the Special Cell, New Delhi. During the investigation, all six accused were arrested.
