Parents of Minor in Pune Car Crash Held for Evidence Tampering

Parents of a minor involved in a fatal car crash in Pune are in police custody until June 5 for allegedly tampering with blood samples to destroy evidence.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Pune): A Pune court has remanded the parents of a 17-year-old boy, who was allegedly involved in a fatal Porsche car accident, to police custody until June 5. The couple is being investigated for their alleged role in tampering with the blood sample of their son after the accident on May 19, which resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals.

Shivani Agarwal, the minor’s mother, was arrested on June 1 after it was discovered that her son’s blood samples had been replaced with hers. The father, Vishal Agrawal, a realtor, had been arrested earlier in a related case for allegedly destroying evidence.

The police presented the couple before a holiday court in Pune, which granted their remand until June 5. According to the police, the Agarwal couple conspired to destroy evidence by manipulating the blood samples at a state-run hospital.

The couple’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, argued that since the police had already searched their house and recovered CCTV footage, and considering that the charges against them fall under IPC section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), which is a bailable offense, they should be sent to judicial custody instead.

In addition to the minor’s parents, the police have also arrested his grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, for allegedly kidnapping the family’s driver and coercing him to take the blame for the accident. Other individuals in police custody include two doctors from the state-run Sassoon General Hospital and an employee for allegedly swapping the blood samples.

The police have registered three separate cases related to the car accident: one FIR concerning the accident itself, another against the bar that allegedly served liquor to the minor, and a third involving the wrongful confinement and coercion of the family driver.
