New Leadership at CBSE: Rahul Singh Takes Charge

Rahul Singh Appointed as CBSE Chief, Nidhi Chhibber Moves to Niti Aayog.

Agency(New Delhi): In a recent high-level bureaucratic reshuffle by the Central Government, senior bureaucrat Rahul Singh has been designated as the new chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). He will be taking over from Nidhi Chhibber, who has been appointed as Advisor in the Niti Aayog.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) confirmed Singh’s appointment, a 1996-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Bihar cadre, to lead the CBSE, as stated in an official notice from the Personnel Ministry. Singh was serving as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) before this new role.

Nidhi Chhibber’s new role as advisor at NITI Aayog comes with an upgrade to the rank and pay of Additional Secretary. This adjustment is accompanied by an extension of her central deputation tenure for one more year, past its initial expiration on March 24, 2024.

In a cascading effect of appointments, A P Das Joshi, a 1994-batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will assume Singh’s former position as Additional Secretary, DoPT.

Other notable appointments include Rajeev Kumar Mital, previously Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Department of Atomic Energy, now becoming Director General of the National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Furthermore, Gyanesh Bharti has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, and Deepak Narain will serve as Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. These appointments reflect a comprehensive reshuffle aimed at strengthening the administration’s effectiveness across various departments.
