Nadda Returns as Health Minister in Modi Cabinet

J P Nadda returns as Union Health Minister and Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, focusing on enhancing healthcare infrastructure and facilities.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (New Delhi): J P Nadda has been allocated the Union Health Ministry and the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, marking his return to the cabinet after leading the BJP as its national president for over four years. He took the oath as a cabinet minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government on Monday.

Previously, both ministries were managed by Mansukh Mandaviya. Nadda expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his cabinet induction and emphasized the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s (MoHFW) commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and facilities. “Grateful to Hon. PM Shri @narendramodi ji for trusting me with the roles of Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers. Modi 3.O is steadfastly committed to the welfare of the people,” Nadda wrote on X.

Nadda, who served as the Union Health Minister during Modi’s first term from 2014 to 2019, resumed his role after leading the BJP since 2019. His tenure as BJP president, which ended in January, was extended to oversee the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, concluding in June.

Representing Himachal Pradesh, Nadda has a background in law and began his political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the RSS’s student wing. He held various significant positions within the BJP, managing election campaigns across multiple states and serving as a minister in Himachal Pradesh’s BJP government. Nadda was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2012 and became a member of the BJP’s parliamentary board in 2014.

During his leadership, the BJP secured new allies and achieved several impressive assembly wins, although it faced challenges from a united opposition. Despite a reduced majority in the recent general elections, the BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats, paving the way for Modi’s third term as Prime Minister.

Nadda’s warm relationship with Modi, who previously managed BJP’s affairs in Himachal Pradesh, remains strong. Besides Nadda, Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (S) and Shiv Sena MP Prataprao Jadhav have been appointed Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare.

Anupriya Patel, also serving as Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, previously held the Health Minister of State role from 2016-2019. She has been Minister of State for Commerce and Industry since 2021 and has consistently won the Mirzapur parliamentary seat since 2014.

Prataprao Jadhav, now serving his fourth term from the Buldhana Lok Sabha constituency, has been an active parliamentarian with significant participation in debates and discussions.
