Agency (Bengaluru): Recognizing the need to support and care for India’s growing senior citizen population, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled a comprehensive package of initiatives under its “Modi ki Guarantee for Senior Citizens” as part of its election manifesto.
The party pledges to expand the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to cover all senior citizens, ensuring free and quality healthcare for the elderly. This move aims to provide a robust safety net for seniors, many of whom face increasing health challenges with age.
To tap into the vast repository of knowledge and experience that senior citizens possess, the BJP plans to introduce a National Senior Citizens portal. This platform will provide opportunities for elders to share their stories, insights, and wisdom with younger generations, fostering intergenerational learning and preserving valuable life lessons.
Recognizing the importance of accessibility, the manifesto promises to ensure seamless access to social security benefits and other essential government services for senior citizens by leveraging the extensive reach of India’s postal network and digital infrastructure. This will bring critical services closer to the elderly, especially those with limited mobility.
The party also aims to bridge the digital divide by providing comprehensive training to senior citizens on using UPI and other online payment methods while educating them on identifying and avoiding digital scams. This empowerment initiative will help seniors navigate an increasingly digital world with confidence and security.
To promote holistic well-being, the BJP plans to organize regular Ayush camps, offering healthcare solutions rooted in traditional practices like Ayurveda and Yoga. These camps will focus on promoting active living and vitality among elders.
Acknowledging the spiritual needs of seniors, the party will work with state governments to ensure convenient facilities for elderly citizens to undertake sacred pilgrimages across the country. This initiative aims to make religious travel more accessible and fulfilling for seniors.
Other key measures include implementing age-friendly public infrastructure and transportation systems to facilitate mobility and independence for senior citizens.
