Modi Ki Guarantee for Balanced Regional Development

BJP's Regional Balance Pledge: Peace in Northeast, Purvodaya Master Plan & Himalayan Flood Control BJP manifesto promises to maintain peace in Northeast, remove AFSPA, formulate Purvodaya Master Plan, develop islands and hill states sustainably, and combat Himalayan river floods.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Bengaluru): Recognizing the importance of balanced regional development for the overall progress and unity of the nation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled a comprehensive plan under its “Modi Ki Guarantee for Balanced Regional Development” as part of its election manifesto.

The BJP pledges to continue its efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Northeast region, which has witnessed a significant reduction in insurgency and violence in recent years. The party aims to address the remaining issues in the disturbed areas and remove the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in a phased manner, as the security situation improves.

To leverage the Northeast’s strategic location and untapped potential, the manifesto promises to develop the region as a gateway for India’s Act East Policy. The BJP aims to enhance connectivity, education, health, economic development, and security in the Northeast, enabling it to play a pivotal role in India’s engagement with Southeast Asia.

Recognizing the recurring problem of floods in the Northeast, the BJP pledges to undertake a scientific study using advanced satellite imagery to identify suitable locations for the construction of large reservoirs. These reservoirs will store excess water during the monsoon season, mitigating the impact of floods, and will be used for irrigation, water sports, and other purposes during the dry season.

To accelerate the development of the Eastern states, the manifesto promises to formulate a dedicated Purvodaya Master Plan. The BJP aims to create a comprehensive roadmap for the integrated development of infrastructure, industry, agriculture, and human capital in the region, unlocking its vast untapped potential.

The BJP also pledges to transform India’s islands, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep, into world-class tourist destinations. The party aims to develop sustainable beach resorts, water sports facilities, and coastal infrastructure, while preserving the fragile ecosystems and promoting responsible tourism practices.

Recognizing the unique challenges and opportunities of the hill states, the manifesto promises to work with the state governments to create a special master plan for their sustainable development. The BJP aims to balance the needs of economic growth, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation, taking into account the local geography, climate, and traditional practices.

To mitigate the impact of Himalayan river floods, which cause massive devastation in the northern states every year, the BJP pledges to partner with neighboring countries for the strategic management of these transboundary rivers. The party aims to implement a combination of structural and non-structural measures, including the construction of dams, embankments, and early warning systems, to minimize the loss of life and property.

Other key initiatives include the strengthening of the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) to improve infrastructure and livelihoods in the border areas; the promotion of regional languages, arts, and crafts to preserve and celebrate India’s cultural diversity; the development of industrial corridors and smart cities to create new growth centers; and the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide universal access to safe and adequate drinking water.
