“Modi ji Jagannath ke bhi upar ho gaye…”: Kejriwal Criticizes BJP Over Patra’s Remark

Kejriwal condemns BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra's comment on Lord Jagannath, accusing BJP of arrogance and disrespect towards tribal communities.

Agency (New Delhi): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sharply criticized BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra’s recent comment on Lord Jagannath, accusing the BJP of arrogance by equating Prime Minister Modi with the deity. Addressing the INDIA bloc rally, Kejriwal stated that the BJP has become so self-important that they now consider Modi ji as God.

“BJP has become so arrogant that they started considering themselves gods. Lord Jagannath is revered as the god of the entire universe. Yesterday, BJP’s top spokesperson, Sambit Patra, claimed that Lord Jagannath is a devotee of Modi ji. This is very sad. Modi ji is now considered above Jagannath. They should be answered for their arrogance,” Kejriwal said.

Patra sparked controversy on Monday after he told a local news channel that “Lord Jagannath is a devotee (bhakt) of PM Modi,” a remark he later called a “slip of the tongue.”

Kejriwal also criticized the BJP’s slogans, saying, “They claim ‘jo Ram ko laaye hai, hum unhe layenge,’ suggesting Modi brought Lord Ram, which is nonsense. Lord Ram brought us into this world.”

He added that the Ram Mandir should have been inaugurated by the President of India. “We celebrated the construction of the Ram Temple, but the President should have inaugurated it. Why wasn’t she invited? Because she is tribal. Modi ji insults Adivasis so much. If we remain silent, this oppression will continue,” he stated.

Kejriwal praised former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren for his support during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The people of Delhi are grateful to Hemant Soren ji. During the oxygen crisis in Delhi, I called him, and he immediately provided oxygen for Delhi,” he said.

He also defended Soren against the ongoing inquiry, questioning why Soren is in jail without a court pronouncing him guilty. “This is Modi’s ‘goondagardi’. There is no court order against me, but I was jailed. Modi ji hates tribal society. Hemant Soren is a prominent leader of the tribal community. His father, Shibu Soren, struggled to create Jharkhand, and now it’s sad to see his son in jail,” Kejriwal added.

Kejriwal asserted that if people support the INDIA bloc, Hemant Soren will be among them by June 5, a day after the election results are announced.
