Meditation Amid Security: PM Modi’s Kanyakumari Visit

The entire Kanyakumari district saw an unprecedented security deployment with around 2,000 police personnel, along with enhanced vigilance by the coast guard and navy. Questions about the financial impact on the state, both in terms of security expenses and lost tourism revenue, remain significant.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Kanya Kumari): In a move drawing considerable attention, PM Modi commenced a meditation session at the rock memorial in Kanyakumari, closing off the popular tourist spot to the public. The location, known for its serene views, is now swarmed with security, ensuring the Prime Minister’s safety during his meditation at the dhyan mandapam.

Despite the high security, political tensions were palpable. Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam staged a black flag protest in Madurai, while social media platform X was inundated with #GoBackModi posts and memes. The timing of the meditation session, coinciding with the seventh and final phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections, has only fueled the opposition.

The entire Kanyakumari district saw an unprecedented security deployment with around 2,000 police personnel, along with enhanced vigilance by the coast guard and navy. Questions about the financial impact on the state, both in terms of security expenses and lost tourism revenue, remain significant.

Before beginning his meditation, Modi stood on the mandapam stairs, taking in the panoramic sea views, reminiscent of his 2019 Kedarnath meditation, which also provided numerous photo opportunities. Coincidentally, a 33-year-old photograph of Modi, then a BJP worker, surfaced, showing him at the rock memorial with BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, marking the start of the ‘Ekta Yatra’ to Kashmir.
