Madiga Shifts from BJP to Congress

Satish Madiga, former BJP leader, joins Congress, citing concerns over BJP’s policies and their impact on SC and ST communities.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency(New Delhi): In a significant political move, Devani Satish Madiga, a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a former candidate in the Achampet constituency assembly elections, has transitioned to the Congress Party. This change was formalized at the Gandhi Bhavan, where Satish Madiga voiced his dissent with the BJP’s policy directions and practices, which he believes disproportionately favor the upper classes, overlooking the needs and development of the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Expressing his reasons for the switch, Madiga highlighted his belief in the Congress Party’s historical commitment to the upliftment of SC and ST communities through various initiatives. He particularly lauded the efforts of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Congress Party in advocating for SC categorisation, a significant issue that is currently under the Supreme Court’s consideration.

Madiga also addressed what he perceives as the BJP’s strategic but insincere attempts to gain support from the Madiga community. He criticized the inconsistency in the party’s campaign efforts and questioned the absence of significant community leaders during his own electoral campaign. Additionally, he accused the BJP of fostering division within the SC community, specifically between the Madiga and Mala groups.

Criticizing the BJP for what he calls “fake love” towards the Madiga community, Madiga questioned the party’s decision-making, especially in relation to candidate nominations, highlighting a specific instance where he believed a more deserving candidate was overlooked.

In defense against accusations that the Congress has also failed the Madiga community, Satish Madiga underscored the party’s historical record of appointing members of SC and ST communities to significant positions of leadership and authority.

This political realignment underscores the complex dynamics within Indian politics, especially regarding caste and community representation. Satish Madiga’s move to the Congress is seen as a statement against the BJP’s policies and an endorsement of Congress’s approach towards inclusive development and social justice.
