Agency(New Delhi): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health has become a focal point of concern since his incarceration on March 21, according to senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Atishi. She has voiced apprehensions about the BJP jeopardizing his health by keeping him in detention. Atishi highlighted that the party plans to pursue legal avenues concerning Kejriwal’s health status.

Contrastingly, Tihar Jail officials, where Kejriwal is held, assert that his health indicators, including weight, have remained consistent since the commencement of his judicial custody, stating he has been stable at 65 Kg. They reassured that his vitals are normal, and he is receiving home-cooked meals as authorized by the court.

Kejriwal, detained by the Enforcement Directorate in connection to an excise policy-linked money laundering case, is ordered to remain in judicial custody until April 15. Atishi’s statements on social media in Hindi underscored Kejriwal’s significant diabetic condition and the distress over his reported 4.5 kg weight loss since his arrest, holding the BJP accountable for the perceived negligence towards his health.

During a press conference, Atishi pointed out the seriousness of Kejriwal’s diabetic condition, mentioning instances during Enforcement Directorate custody where his blood sugar levels dropped alarmingly, once to as low as 46 mg/dL. She noted a weight reduction of 4.5 kg over the last 12 days as particularly concerning for his well-being.

AAP MLA Dilip Pandey echoed these concerns in another briefing, stressing the importance of responsible health management for Kejriwal, especially given his diabetes, which predisposes him to further health complications. He reiterated the weight loss figure, highlighting it as substantiated.

Inquiry about the jail authority’s refutation of these health claims led to a clarification that the concerns pertain to the period of Kejriwal’s Enforcement Directorate custody, where fluctuations in his sugar levels presented severe health risks. Despite the contention, Tihar Jail has ensured that Kejriwal’s dietary needs are met, including monitoring by medical staff due to variable blood sugar levels.
