The Aryavarth Express
Agency(Assam): In a startling development, Assam Police detained an Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati) student on allegations of affiliating with ISIS. The student was apprehended on Saturday evening at Hajo while reportedly en route to join the terrorist organization. This arrest follows the detention of ISIS India’s head Haris Farooqi, also known as Harish Ajmal Farukhi, and his associate Anurag Singh, alias Rehan, in Dhubri district, who had entered India from Bangladesh.

Director-General of Police GP Singh announced the detention via a post on X, stating that the student was caught traveling and that legal proceedings would ensue. Additional Superintendent of Police (STF) Kalyan Kumar Pathak disclosed that the arrest was prompted by an email from the student, declaring his intent to join ISIS, which led to an immediate investigation.

IIT-Guwahati authorities, upon being contacted, revealed the student had been missing since noon and his mobile phone was turned off. Identified as a fourth-year student originally from Okhla, Delhi, he was located approximately 30 km from Guwahati in the Hajo area with assistance from locals.

Post-detention, the student was taken to the STF office for interrogation to ascertain the motive behind his email. An ISIS-like black flag was discovered in his hostel room, now forwarded to specialized agencies for verification. The investigation remains ongoing, with police examining seized items and verifying the student’s statements, though further details remain undisclosed at this time.
