Agency (Hyderabad): A car owner in Hyderabad has paid an astonishing Rs 25.5 lakh to obtain the fancy registration number ‘9999’ for his vehicle. This bid was made during an online auction held by the Telangana State Road Transport Authority, officials announced on Tuesday.
Hyderabad Joint Transport Commissioner C Ramesh confirmed that the number plate ‘TG-09 9999’ was sold for Rs 25,50,002, setting a new record for the highest bid amount for a fancy number in Telangana. The auction, held on Monday, saw participation from 11 bidders.
“This is the highest bid amount for a fancy number in Telangana, setting a new record,” Ramesh told PTI. Previously, in August last year, the ‘9999’ number fetched Rs 21.6 lakh.
The official added that anyone interested in a fancy number can reserve it by paying Rs 50,000 and participate in the bidding if there are multiple bidders. The Khairatabad Road Transport Authority (RTA) office generated over Rs 43 lakh in revenue from the auction of other fancy numbers on Monday.
In March, the Congress government in Telangana changed the vehicle registration code from TS to TG.
