Farmers’ Meeting with Centre Scheduled Amid Protests

Agency (Patiala): As farmers’ protests create chaos around the National Capital, Sarwan Singh Pandher, General Secretary of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, announced that a meeting with the Central government is scheduled for 5 pm the following day. Emphasizing the farmers’ commitment to peaceful resolution, Pandher stated their readiness to engage in dialogue and find solutions.

Pandher expressed the farmers’ desire to avoid conflict and resolve issues through peaceful discussions. He also appealed to the government to stop using tear gas and other forceful means against the protesting farmers, advocating for a more cordial approach.

Addressing allegations made in the media, Pandher refuted claims tagging the farmers as Khalistani supporters or as affiliated with the Congress and Punjab government. He criticized the police’s use of self-loading rifles (SLR) with plastic and rubber bullets and tear gas against the farmers marching towards the national capital.

Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda, involved in negotiations with farmer leaders, urged cooperation and communication from the farmers’ organizations. He emphasized the government’s determination to address administrative issues swiftly while considering the complexities in formulating new laws. Munda expressed the government’s intention to engage in discussions with farmers’ organizations in the coming days to explore possible solutions.
