Agency(New Delhi): In a surprising move, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Union Minister, has announced his retirement from active politics. This declaration comes a day after he was replaced as the BJP candidate for the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat in Delhi, a position he has held since 2014. Dr. Vardhan shared his decision through a heartfelt post on his official X handle, reflecting on his over thirty years of electoral success and service in both state and central governments.

Dr. Vardhan, also a medical professional, expressed his desire to return to his roots, focusing on his lifelong commitment to combating tobacco and substance abuse, climate change, and advocating for sustainable lifestyles. He hinted at resuming his medical practice at his ENT clinic in Krishna Nagar, reiterating his commitment to serving the community.

Highlighting his journey, Dr. Vardhan noted his initial motivation for entering politics was to fight poverty, disease, and ignorance, inspired by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the philosophy of Antodaya by Deen Dayal Upadhyay. His tenure as Health Minister of Delhi and twice as Union Health Minister, especially during the critical phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, stands testament to his dedication to public service.

Dr. Vardhan’s departure from politics is marked by a sense of fulfillment and gratitude towards his colleagues, party workers, and supporters. He also acknowledged the privilege of working closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom he described as one of India’s most impactful leaders in recent history. As Dr. Vardhan prepares to embark on the next phase of his professional life, his contributions to Indian politics and healthcare will remain a significant part of his legacy.
