Anil Kumar Khandelwal Appointed Railway Board Member

Anil Kumar Khandelwal takes charge as Member Infrastructure, Railway Board, bringing over 35 years of experience in railway infrastructure development.

Agency(New Delhi): Shri Anil Kumar Khandelwal, previously the General Manager of East Central Railway, has assumed the position of Member Infrastructure, Railway Board & Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Railways, effective from 20th February 2024.

A 1987 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers, Khandelwal is a civil engineering graduate from MNIT, Jaipur, and holds an M.Tech from IIT Roorkee. With a career spanning over 35 years, he has significantly contributed to the construction and maintenance of the Indian Railways’ infrastructure.

During his tenure, Khandelwal has been instrumental in overseeing and delivering numerous key railway projects. His journey in the railways began in the Naxalite area of South Central Railway as Assistant Engineer/Bellampalli. He has since held various roles across different zones and departments, including SCR, Southern Railway, Railway Board, and Northern Railway.

Notably, as the Chief Administrative Officer/Construction for the USBRL Project, he played a crucial role in the construction of the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge. His tenure as Executive Director/Track Machines at the Railway Board was marked by contributions that transformed India from a track machine importer to an exporter.

Khandelwal’s tenure as Executive Director/Non-Fare Revenue, Railway Board, was particularly distinguished, achieving the highest ever Non-Fare Revenue of Rs. 10,368 Cr. in 2016-17. His leadership skills were further highlighted during his appointment as the first Principal Executive Director of the Gati Shakti Directorate, Railway Board, where he led initiatives to improve collaborative project planning, sanctioning, and monitoring.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Khandelwal has a background in sports and has been actively involved in sports administration. His academic pursuits include participation in strategic management programs at various international institutions.

Khandelwal’s appointment comes at a crucial time when Indian Railways is focusing on large-scale infrastructure development and modernization. His extensive experience and proven track record in railway infrastructure development are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the Railway Board’s strategic objectives.
