ANF Launches Naxal Search in Madikeri, Dakshina Kannada District

In response to suspected Naxal activity, the ANF initiated combing operations in Madikeri and surrounding areas, following unusual grocery purchases.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency(Karnataka): The Anti Naxal Force (ANF) embarked on a comprehensive search operation in Kadamakal, situated within the Madikeri taluk which adjoins the Dakshina Kannada district, on Monday. This initiative was spurred by intelligence reports hinting at Naxalite movements in the vicinity, raising concerns among local law enforcement agencies.

The operation was set into motion subsequent to observations of an unusual transaction, where four individuals, initially thought to be part of a larger group of eight, were reported to have made significant grocery purchases under dubious circumstances. This group, claiming to be affiliated with the Forest Department, conducted their shopping at a modest establishment in Koojimale, located in Kadamakal, accruing a bill amounting to Rs 3,192.

Despite the absence of any incriminating materials such as pamphlets at the purchase site, the incident was enough to trigger a full-fledged combing operation by the ANF. The search extended to the jurisdiction of the Subrahmanya police station within Dakshina Kannada, along with a simultaneous operation in Bhagamandala, Kodagu, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police K Ramarajan alongside senior officials from the ANF. These areas, especially with the looming Lok Sabha elections, have become focal points of increased surveillance due to potential Naxalite activities.

Historically, Madikeri taluk has been devoid of Naxal sightings in recent years, making the current suspicions particularly alarming. The vigilance has thus been amplified in strategic locations including Kadamakal and Bhagamandala, amidst concerns that these sightings could signal a new wave of Naxal presence in the area.

The operations were not confined to these regions alone; ANF personnel also canvassed Srimangala, Kutta, and Makutta, areas abutting Kerala, as part of their comprehensive strategy to root out any potential threat. ANF SP Jitendra Dayam confirmed the ongoing efforts, noting that while the combing operations were a direct response to the received reports, the authenticity of these claims remains under scrutiny. The law enforcement’s proactive approach underscores a heightened state of readiness to counter any threat that may compromise the peace and security of the region.
