Agency (New Delhi): Janata Dal (S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who left India last month amid charges of sexually abusing several women, has announced that he will appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 31. In a video statement aired by a Kannada TV channel on Monday, Prajwal expressed remorse and claimed that he had been suffering from depression.
“I apologize to my parents. I was in depression. I will come and appear before the SIT on May 31,” said Prajwal, who is the grandson of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the son of former Karnataka minister H.D. Revanna. He asserted that the charges against him were fabricated and expressed confidence in the judicial system to clear his name.
Prajwal urged for continued faith from his supporters, stating, “Let God’s, people’s, and family’s blessings be on me. I will surely come before the SIT on May 31, Friday. After coming, I will try to put an end to all this. Keep faith in me.”
Last week, his grandfather Gowda had issued a stern warning, demanding Prajwal surrender to the police and face the probe into the sexual abuse allegations. Prajwal, seeking re-election from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, has been on the run since explicit videos surfaced, allegedly showing him sexually assaulting women. He reportedly fled to Germany in late April.
The court has issued an arrest warrant against Prajwal, and Interpol has placed a blue corner notice. The SIT, established by the state government to investigate the case, has requested the Ministry of External Affairs to cancel Prajwal’s diplomatic passport based on the arrest warrant.
Additionally, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging prompt action to revoke Prajwal’s diplomatic passport.
Prajwal’s father, H.D. Revanna, an MLA from Holenarasipura, is currently out on bail in two cases: one involving the molestation of a cook, who was also allegedly raped by Prajwal, and another related to the kidnapping of a woman.
