Agency(Bombay ): In Nagpur, following the Bombay High Court’s acquittal of former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba in an alleged Maoist links case, his wife described the past ten years as a substantial loss to their lives. Despite the inevitability of his release, she reflected on the significant time wasted during his legal battles.

G N Saibaba, who received a life sentence, had his conviction overturned by the Bombay High Court. However, his release from Nagpur central jail was delayed due to the absence of required documents from the Gadchiroli trial court, according to jail authorities.

Vasantha Kumari, Saibaba’s wife, asserted his innocence and the right to hold an ideology without facing criminal charges. She communicated her frustration and relief to PTI, emphasizing the illegal basis of their long ordeal due to improper legal procedures at the outset.

The high court’s decision underscored the absence of legal grounds for Saibaba’s arrest and the improper sanction for prosecution under stringent laws. Vasantha Kumari expressed confidence in her husband’s legal position, condemning the lack of evidence against him and validating his advocacy for fundamental rights against governmental overreach.

Despite the hardships, including Saibaba’s deteriorating health from only hypertension to multiple ailments and paralysis, the family and his legal team remained hopeful for a rightful acquittal. The high court’s judgment not only underscored the prosecution’s failure to prove the charges but also declared the foundational legal sanctions as unauthorized and void.

As Saibaba awaits release, his family plans to address his medical needs, hopeful for an end to their prolonged struggle for justice and a return to normalcy after a decade of legal and personal challenges.
