New Delhi: SG Pipers on Wednesday unveiled their leadership group for Season 2 of the Hockey India League, entrusting two seasoned Olympians with the captaincy roles. Indian defender Jarmanpreet Singh has been appointed captain of the men’s team, with Australian midfielder Ky Willott named vice-captain. In the women’s squad, star forward Navneet Kaur retains the captain’s armband, while Australia’s Kaitlin Nobbs steps in as vice-captain ahead of her debut season with the franchise.
Jarmanpreet, one of the standout performers for the Pipers last season, further strengthened his credentials after playing a key role in India’s Asia Cup 2025 victory. Willott, known for his exceptional work rate and composure, joins the leadership group fresh off guiding Hockey Club Melbourne to the Hockey One title last weekend.
Navneet returns as leader of the women’s team following a strong campaign where she consistently delivered in crucial moments. Nobbs, a 2025 HIL champion with Perth Thundersticks, brings valuable international experience and defensive stability to the unit.
Head Coach Tim Oudenaller expressed confidence in the men’s leadership group, saying, “Jarmanpreet’s experience and dedication make him an ideal captain. Ky, despite his age, brings great maturity and is well-equipped to support him. The squad will assemble in India soon, and preparations will begin in full swing.”
Men’s captain Jarmanpreet Singh thanked the management for the opportunity, saying, “With a strong mix of junior and senior players, we aim to bring home the title this season.”
Women’s Head Coach Sofie Gierts praised the continuity in leadership, noting, “Navneet reflects the values we want this team to embody—integrity, calm intensity, and exceptional skill. Kaitlin’s experience, especially under pressure, will be invaluable. Our diverse and well-balanced squad is ready for the season.”
Expressing her gratitude, Navneet Kaur said, “Thank you, SG Pipers, for trusting me once again. We have prepared well, keeping in mind last season’s shortcomings, and I’m confident our performance will reflect that.”
With the Women’s League beginning on December 28 and the Men’s League starting January 3, SG Pipers have strengthened both squads. Last season’s title-winning captain Rupinder Pal Singh boosts the men’s defence, while the women’s team gains versatility with Udita joining the lineup. The franchise’s mini auction strategy was led by Director of Hockey Sreejesh PR, in collaboration with coaches and senior players, aiming to build rosters capable of challenging for the Hero Hockey India League titles.
