The Aryavarth Express
Mumbai [Maharashtra]: The Bangur Nagar Police Station in Mumbai has arrested two individuals involved in a high-profile scam, in which a businessman was defrauded of nearly ₹7 lakh with a promise to convert ordinary paper into Indian currency notes using special chemicals and powders.

The accused have been identified as Pawan alias Prakash Kumar Dilip Prasad (25) and Sar alias Gajsingh Manoj Singh Prasad (47).

According to police, the complainant, Lalan Rajkumar Mahto (34), a resident of Goregaon West, was persuaded by the accused that they could magically transform paper into genuine currency. To gain his trust, the accused conducted a demonstration using a ₹500 note, claiming that larger sums could be multiplied manifold. Convinced, Mahto handed over ₹7 lakh.

The accused then prepared bundles of paper, applied the so-called chemical powder, and assured Mahto that the bundles would convert into currency over time. When the packets were later opened, they contained nothing but plain paper. Mahto subsequently filed a complaint with the police.

Using technical intelligence and investigative leads, police traced the accused to Buxar, Bihar and Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. With the assistance of local authorities, both individuals were apprehended.

Police stated that the accused had been operating this scam for a long time, defrauding people of significant amounts by promising the “manufacture” of currency through chemicals.

Authorities have warned the public not to fall for similar inducements, such as multiplying money or converting paper into currency, and urged anyone approached with such offers to report immediately. Investigations are ongoing to determine how many other victims may have been targeted by the gang.
