Review Overview

The Aryavarth Express Kerala, April 9: Veteran actor Mohanlal on Thursday cast his vote in the ongoing Kerala Legislative Assembly elections and encouraged citizens to take part in the democratic process.

Mohanlal voted at a polling booth in the Nemom constituency of Thiruvananthapuram. Sharing a selfie from his car, he displayed the indelible ink mark on his finger and urged voters to step out and exercise their franchise. “Done my part. Your turn, Kerala go vote!” he wrote on his official X handle.

His message quickly gained traction on social media, with fans and followers amplifying his appeal for higher voter turnout.

Polling began at 7 am across all 140 constituencies in the state. According to the Election Commission of India, voter turnout reached 33.28 per cent by 11 am, with steady participation reported from various regions.

Kerala has over 2.69 crore registered voters, including approximately 1.38 crore women and 1.31 crore men, along with 277 voters from the third gender category. The electorate also includes around 4.24 lakh first-time voters aged 18–19, and more than 2 lakh voters above the age of 85.

To ensure smooth conduct of the elections, authorities have set up 30,471 polling stations and deployed nearly 1.46 lakh trained personnel. Security has been tightened across the state, with over 1,200 police teams on duty.

The election is seen as a key contest between the incumbent Left Democratic Front (LDF), aiming for a third consecutive term, and the United Democratic Front (UDF), which is seeking to return to power. Vote counting is scheduled for May 4.
