Hyderabad, Telangana, March 18: Heavy rain struck parts of Hyderabad’s old city around midnight on Wednesday, temporarily disrupting the traditional all-night shopping during Ramadan. Popular areas from Charminar to Madina Building saw festivities come to a brief halt as people sought shelter from the downpour.
Earlier this week, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy joined the Dawat-e-Iftar at LB Stadium, along with Telangana Minister Mohammad Azharuddin and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, celebrating the holy month with the Muslim community. Addressing attendees, Reddy emphasized the spiritual significance of Ramadan. “In this holy month, you pray five times a day, do good deeds, and read the Quran. We pray for the good of this country and the world,” he said.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, marks the period when the Quran is believed to have been revealed. During this month, Muslims observe a strict fast from dawn to sunset, known as Roza, abstaining from food and water. The daily schedule includes five prayers: Fazar, Zohar, Ashar, Maghrib, and Isha. The fast concludes each evening with the Maghrib prayer, followed by Iftar meals.
The month-long observance culminates in Eid al-Fitr, a celebration of breaking the fast, marked by festive meals, gift-giving, and charitable acts toward the less fortunate. Fasting during Ramadan is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam, underscoring its spiritual and religious importance.
