Imphal, Manipur: In a significant move against drug-related offenses, Manipur Police have arrested a serving rifleman of the state police department for possession of contraband drugs.

The accused, identified as Wahidur Rahman (43), hailing from Moijing Leingoiching in Thoubal district, was apprehended on October 10 from the North AOC area under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district.

According to an official statement released on X (formerly Twitter), police recovered 544 capsules of the banned substance Semplx+, weighing approximately 301 grams, from Rahman’s possession.

Authorities confirmed that Rahman is currently serving as a rifleman in the Manipur Police Department. The department reiterated its strict stance against personnel found involved in illegal drug activities. Police stated that such offenders face not only departmental disciplinary action but also criminal proceedings under relevant laws.

A further investigation into the case is ongoing.

In related developments, security forces arrested two more individuals suspected of drug trafficking from Thoubal and Imphal East districts.

The accused have been identified as Md Khursid Alam (21) from Lilong Litan Makhong in Thoubal district and Md Akbar (37) from Khergao Awang Leikai in Imphal East. Akbar was arrested in a follow-up operation after Alam’s capture.

The operation led to the seizure of approximately 3 kilograms of heroin, eight bottles of the psychotropic cough syrup Tussrex-TR, drug sale proceeds amounting to ₹9,57,000, one SBBL gun with two cartridges, a four-wheeler vehicle, and four mobile phones.

Manipur Police continue to intensify operations against drug trafficking networks across the state.
