The Aryavarth Express Bongaon (West Bengal): Manipal Hospital Whitefield and Varthur Road, Bengaluru, on February 8, 2026, launched their new Outreach OPD Services in Bongaon with a community-focused health seminar held at Nildarpan Bhaban. The initiative aims to improve access to specialised healthcare services for local residents and create a streamlined referral pathway for advanced treatment at Manipal Hospitals in Bengaluru.
The outreach programme is supported by an Information Centre that will serve as a dedicated contact point for patients seeking guidance and consultations with specialists from Manipal Hospital Whitefield and Varthur Road. The initiative also seeks to strengthen collaboration with local government authorities, medical professionals, and diagnostic partners.
The event was attended by Chief Guest Debasish Biswas, Arjuna Awardee in Mountaineering and summiteer of Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. Emphasising the importance of accessible healthcare, Biswas said community-based initiatives play a vital role in spreading awareness and encouraging timely medical intervention.
The seminar featured expert sessions by senior consultants from Manipal Hospitals, addressing health concerns commonly seen in the region. Dr. (Gp Capt) Ashish Chauhan, Consultant – Cardiology, spoke on the rising incidence of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks among younger individuals and women. He highlighted the role of lifestyle factors such as stress, smoking, sedentary habits, uncontrolled diabetes, and high blood pressure, stressing the importance of early screening, lifestyle modification, and timely treatment.
Dr. Pramod J, Consultant – Surgical Gastroenterology, discussed digestive and gastric disorders, noting that irregular eating habits, poor diet, stress, and self-medication often lead to chronic problems. He emphasised that early consultation and appropriate treatment can prevent complications and reduce the need for major surgical interventions.
Orthopaedic concerns were addressed by Dr. Rajesh Srinivas, Consultant – Orthopaedics, who pointed out that knee pain is increasingly affecting people across all age groups due to repetitive physical work, obesity, age-related degeneration, and untreated injuries. He said early diagnosis, physiotherapy, and lifestyle changes can help patients maintain mobility and independence.
Dr. Bharat P. Sarkar, Consultant – Spine Surgery, highlighted the growing prevalence of spine-related disorders such as back and neck pain among farmers, drivers, shopkeepers, and office workers. He noted that while most spine conditions do not require surgery if treated early, recognising warning signs and seeking medical attention is essential to prevent long-term nerve damage.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session and a health quiz, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and accessible specialist services through its newly launched Outreach OPD Services in Bongaon.
