Innovative Leap in Healthcare: Launch of AYUSH-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research

Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates the AYUSH-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research, signaling a new era of collaborative healthcare research between traditional and modern medical practices.

Agency(New Delhi): Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, has inaugurated the AYUSH-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research in AIIMS, New Delhi, marking a significant stride towards blending traditional AYUSH practices with contemporary medical science. This initiative, among others announced, including a multicentre clinical trial on Anaemia and the launch of Indian Public Health Standards for AYUSH healthcare facilities, is set to revolutionize India’s approach to holistic healthcare.

The AYUSH-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research, part of a Rs 750 crore scheme under the iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) framework for 2023-24 to 2025-26, aims to develop around 30 deep-tech critical and strategic technologies. This venture will also see the creation of a ‘Technology Watch Tool’ to synchronize the needs of modern Armed Forces with the capabilities of the defence innovation ecosystem. The first edition of ADITI has launched 17 challenges across various defence services, underscoring the government’s commitment to nurturing youth innovation in the field of technology.

The Union Health Minister emphasized the importance of collaborative research in AYUSH as a bridge between traditional knowledge and modern scientific research. He highlighted the government’s integrative approach to healthcare, which seeks to leverage the best practices from both Ayurveda and Allopathy, aiming to position India at the forefront of global holistic healthcare innovations.

In addition to the AYUSH-ICMR Centre, the minister announced a multicentre clinical trial on Anaemia, conducted by CCRAS under the Ministry of AYUSH and ICMR, across eight different sites. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to addressing widespread health issues through integrated medical practices.

The launch of Indian Public Health Standards for AYUSH healthcare facilities is another step towards enhancing the quality of health care delivery across the country. By establishing uniform standards and quality infrastructure, the initiative is expected to enable the public to avail the benefits of AYUSH medical services comprehensively.

The event also witnessed the inauguration of the 27th convocation of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth and the 29th National Seminar on ‘Ayurvedo Amritanam’. These initiatives underscore the ministry’s efforts to promote Ayurveda and other traditional healthcare practices, fostering a holistic approach to health and wellness in India.
