BENGALURU: Amid growing chatter within the Karnataka Congress over a potential change in the Chief Minister’s post, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday made it clear that such decisions rest solely with the party high command and urged leaders to refrain from fuelling unnecessary speculation.
Responding to reporters about claims made by some state Congress leaders suggesting a leadership change in October, Kharge said:
“Such matters are entirely in the hands of the high command. No one here knows what decisions are being taken at that level. The high command has the authority to take action as required, but people should not create problems by making baseless assumptions.”
Following the Congress’ return to power in Karnataka in 2023, reports emerged about an alleged power-sharing formula between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, under which each would serve for 2.5 years. However, the party has neither confirmed nor denied such an arrangement.
Currently, Siddaramaiah continues as Chief Minister, with Shivakumar as his deputy, amid renewed political murmurs as the government marks the halfway point of its term later this year.
