The Aryavarth Express Kochi (Kerala): The highly anticipated film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond has hit a major setback just a day before its scheduled release. The Kerala High Court on Thursday issued a 15-day interim stay, blocking the film’s release originally set for February 27.
The sequel to the National Award-winning The Kerala Story (2023) explores the lives of three young women who, according to the film, are drawn into deceptive marriages and face alleged forced religious conversions. Since the release of its trailer, the film has sparked intense reactions from political leaders, celebrities, and social media users, with many criticizing it as “propaganda.” The filmmakers, however, maintain that the story is based on researched real-life incidents.
Earlier reports suggested that the teaser for the film had been removed following court intervention. Sunshine Pictures, the production house, has denied these claims. In an official statement, the company said,
“We categorically clarify that the news about the removal of The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond teaser is completely false and misleading. The matter is currently sub judice. No court order has directed the removal of any content. Both the teaser and trailer remain available on all our official platforms.”
The Kerala High Court imposed a two-week stay on the release of ‘The Kerala Story 2’, citing legal and procedural concerns.
The statement also urged media outlets, digital platforms, and the public to avoid spreading unverified information, warning that such speculation only adds confusion.
The makers are now expected to announce a new release date once the 15-day stay period concludes.
