Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): Doctors of Kerala’s government medical colleges will launch an indefinite protest from January 13, alleging anomalies in the pay revision order and the government’s failure to address long-pending demands, the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) said on Thursday.

According to a press release issued by the association, KGMCTA will begin an indefinite boycott of teaching from January 13. From the following week, all non-emergency medical services will also be boycotted. In addition, a dharna will be held in front of the Secretariat on January 19.

The association clarified that essential health services will be excluded from the protest. Casualty services, labour rooms, ICUs, inpatient care, emergency treatments including surgeries, and post-mortem examinations will continue uninterrupted.

KGMCTA said it has been protesting since July 1, 2025, alleging that the state government has failed to honour assurances given over the years on several unresolved issues. These include rectification of anomalies in the pay revision order, disbursement of salary and dearness allowance (DA) arrears, prevention of temporary and mass transfers, creation of adequate faculty posts, and ensuring sufficient facilities for both faculty and patients.

“As no remedial measures were taken by the authorities, the agitation was intensified, leading to overt protest programmes including relay OP boycotts,” the release said. It added that a meeting was held on November 10, 2025, under the leadership of the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, during which assurances were given that genuine demands would be addressed.

“However, none of the issues raised by KGMCTA have been resolved favourably,” the association alleged, adding that no constructive steps have been taken by the government to resolve the matter amicably.

In this situation, the association said it has no option but to further intensify its agitation while continuing work-to-rule and non-cooperation measures.

To brief the public on the issues faced by government doctors and to explain the details of the protest programmes, KGMCTA announced that it will hold a press conference at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on Monday, January 12.
