The Aryavarth Express Dakshina Kannada (Karnataka): Police in Dakshina Kannada district have registered a case against a government school administration for allegedly transporting students in a pickup van in violation of safety norms and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The incident came to light on February 9, 2026, in Parari area of Balanja village. According to police, the pickup van was carrying a group of schoolchildren from Balanja to a nursery in Nalkuru for a field study visit.
Authorities noted that a tipper lorry was also moving along the same public road at the time, raising serious concerns about the safety of the children being transported in a goods vehicle not authorised for student transport.
Following a formal complaint filed by Dharanendra, a resident of Balanja village, the Venur Police Station registered a case and initiated further investigation.
Ragging Case in Devanahalli: 23 Students Booked, Three Arrested
In a separate incident, a serious ragging case has been reported from Devanahalli town in Bengaluru Rural district. According to Devanahalli Police, a complaint has been filed against 23 senior students for allegedly harassing first-year students.
Three of the accused have been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining students.
Police said senior students allegedly subjected first-year BBA and BCA students to repeated ragging over several days. The complaint claims that juniors were forced to bring alcohol and cigarettes and were made to stand for hours holding their books as punishment.
