Court Sets Bail Conditions for Sanjay Singh in Excise Policy Case

The Rouse Avenue court has accepted Sanjay Singh's bail bond with conditions that include sharing his itinerary and enabling Google location when leaving Delhi NCR, following his Supreme Court-granted bail.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency(New Delhi): On Wednesday, the Rouse Avenue court, following directives from the Supreme Court, granted bail to Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy money laundering case. Special CBI Judge Kaveri Baweja set the bail bond at Rs 2 lakh alongside a surety bond of the same amount, which was furnished by Singh’s wife, Anita Singh.

Initially, the court considered restricting Singh from leaving the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). However, acknowledging the arguments of Singh’s counsel, Rajat Bhardwaj, the court modified the conditions. Bhardwaj highlighted Singh’s commitments as an MP and a political leader, particularly during the election period when campaign schedules are subject to last-minute changes, arguing against the feasibility of seeking court permission for each departure from Delhi NCR.

As a compromise, the court ordered Singh to email his itinerary to the investigating officer and maintain his Google location active while outside Delhi NCR. This decision takes into account Singh’s political responsibilities without compromising the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Special Counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Zoheb Hossain, noted an additional Supreme Court condition prohibiting Singh from discussing his case with the media. Singh’s counsel assured compliance with all court directives, including the Supreme Court’s mandate.

Further conditions imposed by the court include surrendering his passport, prohibiting international travel, providing his mobile number to the investigating officer, and cooperating with the investigation.

Sanjay Singh’s arrest in October of the previous year marked a significant development in the Delhi Excise Policy money laundering case, which has also seen the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The case continues to draw significant attention due to the involvement of high-profile political figures and its implications on governance in Delhi.
