New Delhi: Jail authorities have submitted a report to the Patiala House Court refuting allegations by Chaitanyanand Saraswati that his life is under threat inside Tihar Jail. The report states that he is being held in safe and secure custody.
Saraswati, who is in judicial custody in a molestation case, had earlier alleged that he feared for his life. However, according to the report filed before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Animesh Kumar on Tuesday, he did not name or identify any individual from whom he apprehended harm.
The court had sought the report on November 14 after hearing Saraswati’s submissions.
Jail officials said they personally interacted with Saraswati to address his concerns. He was advised to immediately inform any jail official or report directly to senior authorities if he ever feels threatened or harassed. Jail staff have been instructed to stay vigilant, respond promptly to any grievance raised by him, and escalate concerns without delay.
The report also notes that Saraswati expressed apprehensions regarding his safety in the jail van and court lock-up. In response, the jail administration has written to the Delhi Police and DCP (NAV DAP) to ensure enhanced security during his transit between jail and court.
Authorities further informed the court that Saraswati is permitted to wear a saffron robe within the jail premises. He may purchase one from the jail canteen or receive it during mulaqat. He has also been allowed a restricted diet that excludes onion and garlic.
The Patiala House Court has extended his judicial custody until November 24. Saraswati was arrested in a molestation case registered at Vasant Kunj North Police Station, based on a complaint filed by students from an institute run by a trust.
