Bengaluru: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the CMS-03 communication satellite aboard its LVM3-M5 rocket on November 2, 2025, marking the fifth operational mission of the LVM3 launch vehicle.
According to ISRO, the CMS-03 is a multi-band communication satellite designed to provide advanced communication services across the Indian landmass and a vast oceanic region.
“India’s LVM3 launch vehicle is scheduled to launch the CMS-03 communication satellite in its 5th operational flight (LVM3-M5) on November 2, 2025. CMS-03 will offer multi-band communication services over a wide oceanic region, including the Indian landmass,” ISRO said in an official statement.
Weighing around 4,400 kg, CMS-03 will be the heaviest communication satellite ever launched to a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) from Indian soil. The fully integrated LVM3-CMS-03 vehicle was moved to the launch pad on October 26 for final pre-launch checks.
The LVM3 vehicle previously carried out the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, which made India the first country to land near the lunar south pole.
Meanwhile, ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan recently announced that the organization is working on upcoming missions Chandrayaan-4 and Chandrayaan-5, along with plans to place a completed module of India’s space station in orbit by 2035.
Chandrayaan-4 is expected to serve as a Venus Orbiter Mission, following the success of Chandrayaan-3, which was launched on July 14, 2023.
In parallel, preparations for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission are underway. The mission aims to send a crew of three astronauts into an orbit of 400 km for three days, with a safe splashdown in Indian sea waters. The project follows Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s successful participation in NASA’s Axiom-4 mission, further strengthening India’s human spaceflight capabilities.
